LAX

What a great weekend!

This weekend I made another trip up to LA to watch my cousins Alexa and Caroline play against each other during USC Women's Lacrosse Inaugural Match at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It was such an awesome moment watching them play against each other on such a highly competitive level.

Alexa and Caroline duke it out at Caroline's first Division 1 lacrosse game!

Prior to the game, I went to Manhattan Beach, where I would be staying for the weekend and went surfing with my other cousins. I also got the opportunity to explore the area. All I can say is that living there would'nt be so bad, and by that I mean, sign me up!

During the weekend I felt like a proper tourist as I hiked to the Hollywood sign. Mind you, when I say hike, I mean glorified uphill walk. The trail was not difficult, but the views were great. I was basically staring at a panaramic view of LA, which looked much better than the last time I was there. Afterwards I headed to the Caroline's second lacrosse game of the season against UMass.

Joe, Me, and TJ at the Hollywood Sign!
It was really nice seeing my family and being part of my cousin's game experience.

Life in San Diego

Hello again! Sorry for the delay in posting, it has been a crazy few weeks.

So to start, my best friend Olivia and some of my friends from CMA came down to San Diego for my birthday weekend, which was a blast! To top it off, some of the sophomores were transferred to a ship that is based in San Diego, so they too were able to take part in the festivities! It was definitely nice having so many people I care about with me for my birthday, especially because my family was so far away. During the weekend I gave Olivia the grand tour of San Diego. We went to La Jolla, Del Mar, Pacific Beach, Solona Beach and Coronado. A pretty decent coastal trip.

Olivia and I at a beach in La Jolla!

Now back to work, the following week at work consisted of a scramble to finish the inclining report and to keep moving ahead on the as builts for the Diver Support Vessel for the Navy. Basically I have been an autocad monkey, which fortunately is okay by me. To top it off the past two weeks have been taken over by packing and unpacking as we moved back into our newly remodeled office. Fortunately, the new office still has some pretty nice views.

My Desk!

Over the weekend, I was able to take a short trip up to LA to watch my high school classmate Sarah play a a club lacrosse game against USC, and visit my cousin Caroline as well. It was a nice change of pace although LA is not the nicest city in the world...

Downtown LA
This week at work was crunch time. I alternated between unpacking the office and fixing drawings. In short I was morphing between a glorified pack mule and an AutoCAD monkey. Not horrible animals to be. Fortunately we were able to hand everything in on time.

This weekend, I will be heading back to lovely LA to watch my cousins face off in a division 1 women's lacrosse match, Northwestern vs USC.

Inclining Experiment

So, today is my 21st birthday! Now on a completely unrelated topic, this is a brief post about the inclining experiment M Ship Co. performed onthe recently designed Dive Support Boat for the US Navy.

Yesterday I saw 0430 for the first time in ages, as I had to catch the 0515 trolley to downtown. After batting my eyelashes at the security guard of the building I was able to get up to the office to meet my boss  and gather some essential items we needed for the  experiement before heading to Marine Group Boat works in Chula Vista.

The entire day was so much fun. From taking measurements and pictures to attempting to move extremely heavy drums of water, I had a pretty fun day; plus, which I suppose was the point of me helping with the experiment, I learned quite a bit about the process of performing an inclining experiment and about the post-test calculations and analysis

Also, despite the clouds it was an absolutely beautiful day. It was well worth the early morning date with 0430!

Another Day in Paradise!

Another great day.

After a late night of eating burgers at the Station and watching marathons of Mudcats at Pete's house, John and I made sure to sleep in today.

After getting up around 11:30, we immediately decided to take advantage of the beautiful, 75 degree, weather and head to the pool to catch up on some reading and enjoy the sunshine. I felt like I was on vacation! Somehow, I think I could get used to this...

Afterwards, we headed to Mission Valley Mall to grab a few items we needed for the week. We then decided to head to Ocean Beach.

Elli, John and I walked the OB pier, which happens to be the longest pier in California, and did some shopping. Ocean Beach is such a unique place! It almost feels like you are back in the 70s. Long hair, hippie-esque clothes, no shoes, and beautiful weather. I must be California dreaming! After some wandering we headed to Hodad's for dinner (I know, I'm obsessed!), and took a cab back to Mission Valley.

Overall, It was a pretty relaxing Sunday!

Food, Flea Markets, and Sheriffs

What a great few days.

To start, on Thursday I took John to In-N-Out Burger for the first time. Double-Double Animal Style, it was love at first bite. I mean, I would have been doing a disservice to John if I didn't take him there within the first few weeks of being in So Cal; it is basically a right of passage.

So, this brings us to Friday. On Friday I had a pretty relaxing evening. I got home from work at around 4:30 and did some cleaning and reading. John was out, so it was nice to have the apartment to myself. I made myself a delicious ramen meal and was greeted a few hours later by John, Elli, and Erin. We were all pretty tired from a long work week and quickly sunk into the couch and watched a Law and Order: SVU marathon (I basically forced everyone to watch it with me...). Elli left pretty early, and soon after Pete Stanton '03 came over to join our relaxing evening. Pete left a little later and Erin spent the night.

Today, Erin, Elli, John and I headed to the Kobey's swap meet, which was in essence a huge flea market! Wow was it huge! I had never seen anything like it in my life. From bags to army gear to groceries and socks, this place had everything. Fortunately I was able to contain myself and only buy a few things.

A few hours later after noticing how hungry we were, Elli, John, Erin and I headed to Old Town for a bite to eat and a bit of exploring. Upon arriving we went to this place called the Alamo and had amazing burritos! Afterwards, while wandering, we came across the San Diego Sheriff's Museum! It was really neat. Outside they had old Sheriffs cars on display, and inside was an "interactive" exhibit detailing the history of Sherrifs in San Diego! It was super fascinating!

After a long day of exploring, Erin headed to La Jolla to meet Lauren and her family, while John, Elli, and I headed back to the apartment for some reading and relaxing on the porch. A perfect end to a perfect day.

Webb Alumni Dinner

What an excellent evening.

Today, John, Elli, Lauren, Erin and I attended the San Diego Webb Alumni dinner at Cafe Coyote in Old Town. It was an amazing opportunity to meet some Webbies from the area.  It was also nice talking with Dean and Mrs. Neilson, Admiral and Mrs. Olsen, and Mr and Mrs. Keith Michell about the great things that have happened and are happening at Webb. In addition to the great contacts and catching up, the food was amazing. I had a carne asada torta, which was unreal.

Overall the evening was full of good food and good people; but hey, would you expect anything less from a Webbie gathering?
